Introduction

A copy of the rules is sent to each parent upon admission of a student at the Academy. The following are the principles and rules to which parents subscribe when their children are admitted to the Academy. In addition to these principles, of which the spirit is naturally more important than the intimation, students are required to conform to various local regulations. These are not listed here as they may be altered from time to time. The Academy rules apply to all students.

General Conditions

  1. The Academy has first claim on a student’s time and interest in term-time, including weekends.
  2. Parents are normally requested to give a complete term’s notice in writing of the withdrawal of a student.
  3. The acceptance of a place at Kathmandu Academy implies acceptance of the Academy’s rules by students and parents.

Cafeteria

  1. Students are served meals on the roof top.
  2. Students are expected not to be wasteful and place the dirty dishes at appropriate disposal locations.

Attendance

  1. Students are required to be at the Academy at least 15 minutes prior to their commencement of the classes. Strict punctuality is required and students coming late are liable for their own recovery on the materials covered during the regular classes.
  2. Students may not leave the Academy’s building during class periods without permission.
  3. Students may be required to attend Academy outside class hours, including Saturday, to attend other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and for other reasons.
  4. Students are strongly discouraged from taking paid employment, which should never be undertaken where it interferes with Academy activities, and will not be accepted as an excuse for missing any activity.

Absence

  1. Please telephone on the first day of a student’s absence in all cases. On returning to the Academy, the student should bring a note from the parents confirming the duration of, and reason for, absence.  This note should be given to the Principal.
  2. Illness is the only justification for unforeseeable absence.  Absences for other legitimate causes (e.g. other examinations, university placement interviews, visits to home districts, etc) must be covered by a letter in advance to the Principal, who may arrange for the issue of an ‘Exeat Slip’.  Routine medical and dental appointments and similar engagements should not conflict with Academy activities.  Students will not be excused for family holidays and occasions.

Bounds and Leaves

  1. The Administrative chambers are out of bounds for all students except with prior permission.
  2. Students are not allowed to be in the labs without permission of the respective Faculty Member.
  3. The other floors of the building are out of bounds for all students and cannot be entered into casually.
  4. Students are to stay within the premises of the Academy and not go out during breaks. For exceptional cases, permission has to be sought and granted by the Principal.

Class Room

  1. On cases where respective Faculty Member for some unforeseen reasons cannot make it to the designated period, students are requested to inform the Principal. The Academy expects the students to indulge themselves in academic activities until the Principal informs them about the substitution or other alternative arrangements.
  2. Students are expected to be seated ahead of their class periods. Late arrivals and absentees must be reported to the Principal.
  3. Students are expected to behave in their best possible conduct to facilitate the teaching learning environment in the classrooms.

Resource Center

  1. All the learning resources at the Resource Center can be accesses by the students, including the internet, without any additional charges.
  2. Students are encouraged to access the reference books, magazines, journals, and other resources of the library during the opening hours of the Resource Center.
  3. Materials can be borrowed for a maximum of one week and renewable for subsequent weeks, for a maximum duration of a month. Such borrowed resources have to be brought to the Resource Center during renewal.
  4. Late fees, damage fees, and replacement fees will depend on the resource(s) borrowed or used, damaged, or lost.
  5. Students are expected to take complete responsibility of the borrowed resources for their upkeep and maintenance so that they can be further used by other students and Faculty Members.
  6. Students are not allowed to take away any resource materials including the Past Papers without the permission of the Principal; copies can be reproduced and handed out upon request.
  7. Students are encouraged to make every possible use of the materials and resources of the Resource Center.
